OTD Class of 2027 dons white coats

With proud family members and friends watching, members of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Class of 2027 received their white coats on May 7 in a traditional ceremony that marked the transition from the classroom to the fieldwork and the capstone experiences of their third and final year in the program.

Master of Science in Imaging Sciences students win awards at state conference

Students in the Master of Science in Imaging Sciences (MSIS) Class of 2027 participated in the Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists (TxSRT) Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium held in Austin in April. 

TxSRT is the professional organization for medical imaging professionals, radiation therapists and imaging advocates across Texas. 


PT professor receives national award for professional service and leadership

The award recognizes physical therapists and physical therapy assistants who have added exceptional value through their service to APTA and its state-level organizations.

Faculty, staff and students of the Medical Laboratory Sciences program attended the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science — Texas 2026 meeting held in San Antonio  in April, with students posting impressive wins in the Student Bowl and research poster competition.

PT student credits white coat milestone to family, friends and classmates

 

When Doctor of Physical Therapy student Maddy Roe walked the stage at Holly Auditorium during the white coat ceremony for the Class of 2027, three generations of her family were watching.

On April 17, Roe and her fellow classmates took part in the traditional ceremony that marks their passage from the classroom phase of their educational journey to the clinical phase. For Roe, her first clinical rotation this summer will be back in her home state of Kansas, where her parents will be able to watch her toddler daughter, Joanna.

The School of Health Professions congratulates six faculty members whose successful applications for promotion with tenure will take effect Sept. 1, pending approval from the University of Texas System Board of Regents at its August meeting.

Emergency Health Sciences faculty member receives award from National Association of EMS Physicians for leadership and service during Hill County flooding

 

Department of Emergency Health Sciences Assistant Professor Stephen Harper, MD, MPH, was awarded the EMS Physician Meritorious Service Award from the National Association of EMS Physicians for his service during the July 4, 2025, flooding in the Texas Hill Country. The award is given to honor exceptional service and leadership in the field.

For second-year Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology student Lauren Guerra and her teammates, competing in the PRAXIS Bowl — a high-energy, game-show-style competition held during the Texas Speech-Hearing Association 70th Annual Convention and Exhibition in Fort Worth in February — provided a chance to prove that their entire graduating class has what it takes to be excellent speech-language pathologists.
