Hosted on Zoom, this year鈥檚 symposium, 鈥淟ooking Toward the Future,鈥 marks the second year the symposium will be virtual in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Tabatha Dragonberry, DHSc, MBA, MEd, RRT-NPS, RRT-ACCS, AE-C, CPFT, C-NPT, assistant professor and director of online education for the Division of Respiratory Care.
Participants may register for one or both days of the symposium, which will feature six speakers per day from the U.S. and around the world. Some of the session topics include electric impedance tomography, legal and ethical issues in health care decision making, management of the patient with obstructive lung disease, apnea tests for brain death evaluation, and introduction to the carbogen method.

Titled 鈥淢inors to Majors,鈥 this virtual conference will allow students to ask professionals questions about a variety of respiratory therapy career roles, including those of clinical specialist, travel therapist, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapist, and transport therapist.
鈥淢ost respiratory therapists in the profession work bedside,鈥 Dr. Dragonberry said. 鈥淏ut there are other avenues for respiratory therapists besides bedside care.鈥
In addition, students who have worked with COVID-19 patients will share their experiences during the conference鈥檚 first hour.
