SLP student receives TSAHP award
Second-year speech-language pathology master鈥檚 student Jena Hermes received the 2022 Texas Society for Advancement of Health Professions (TSAHP) Student Award.
Hermes received the award at the TSAHP annual conference awards dinner on Sept. 22.
鈥淭he committee selected Jena based on her service to the community and profession, as well as her scholastic achievement and future professional potential,鈥 noted Assistant Professor Roc铆o Norman, PhD, CCC-SLP. Hermes is a graduate research assistant in Norman鈥檚 lab, which is engaged in mild traumatic brain injury research.
鈥淚t was a really nice surprise,鈥 Hermes said of the award. 鈥淚 have been very pleasantly surprised by the opportunities I have had at 福利一区在线, especially in research. I think my involvement in research also helped me with the award. Through research working with Dr. Norman, I have been able to get more community outreach in.鈥
Hermes also won second place for a virtual poster titled 鈥淭he Relationship Between Cognitive-Linguistic Performance on Sleep Problems in Adults with Mild Traumatic Brain Injury,鈥 which describes a project on which she collaborated with Norman and Tara Flaugher of the University of Texas at San Antonio. Hermes is one of three students in the School of Health Professions鈥 Distinction in Research program this year, and the poster topic also is the subject of her Distinction in Research project. Hermes received cash awards for both the student award and the poster contest.
The 2022 TSAHP Annual Conference was hosted by Texas State University in Round Rock.
